Position Announcement
Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Islam
The Department of Religious Studies invites applications for a position in the study of Islam at the rank of a tenure-track assistant professor. Although the primary area of expertise may be in any historical period or in any region, the successful candidate will be able to teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Islam, conduct research leading to scholarly publications and provide service to the department, university, and profession.

Required: PhD in Religious Studies or a related discipline by time of appointment; demonstrated scholarly expertise in Quran and classical exegetical sources; demonstrated primary expertise and research in Islamic schools of thought or legal traditions, or Islamic history; evidence of ability to work with Arabic language texts; record of research, publication and teaching experience, appropriate to development since time of doctorate.
Desired: scholarly research in any of the fields of study of Islam which could address, interpret, and evaluate the particular features of social conflicts in Islamic history and their relevance to contemporary global developments; demonstrated ability to teach theoretical and thematic courses in the study of religion.
