About the Quranic Verse 8:26

Published in November 19, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir, …  The Lord God says the following in the Quran: "And remember when you were few, oppressed in the land, fearing that people may capture you..." (8:26). When did the early believers in Arabia feared that their persecutors would capture them? … Thank you …

Answer:

Of course, they feared that their enemies (i.e., polytheistic aggressors) would capture and enslave them; this fear existed for a certain period of time; this entails the following brief explanation: The Lord God has said the following to early believers in Yathreb after lending them victory within the battle of Badr: "And remember when you were few, oppressed in the land, fearing that people may capture you; but He sheltered you, and supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - so that you may be thankful." (8:26). The victory they achieved in the battle of Badr over the tyrannical Meccan/Qorayish aggressors was a major turning point in history of the early believers in Yathreb; some of them became too arrogant and too confident; the Lord God has reminded them in 8:26 of their living in constant danger as a weak group of immigrants. Before the battle of Badr, the Lord God has promised to grant them security: "God has promised those of you who believe and do righteous deeds, that He will make them successors on earth, as He made those before them successors, and He will establish for them their religion - which He has approved for them - and He will substitute security in place of their fear. They worship Me, never associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that - these are the sinners." (24:55). Of course, before the battle of Badr, the Qorayish aggressors kept raiding Yathreb with their military troops that terrorized the peaceful Yathreb-dwellers who feared being captured, enslaved, and/or killed by their polytheistic persecutors; at the time, the permission to engage into self-defense was not given to them by the Lord God; they had to be well-prepared and trained first to be able to deter their enemies: "And prepare against them all the power you can muster, and all the cavalry you can mobilize, to terrify thereby God's enemies and your enemies, and others besides them whom you do not know, but God knows them. Whatever you spend in God's way will be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged." (8:60). Eventually, when they were militarily prepared, permission has been given to them here to defend themselves against their attackers: "Permission is given to those who are fought against, and God is Able to give them victory. Those who were unjustly evicted from their homes, merely for saying, "Our Lord is God." Were it not that God repels people by means of others: monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques - where the name of God is mentioned much - would have been demolished. God supports whoever supports Him. God is Strong and Mighty." (22:39-40). After the victory within the battle of Badr, the early believers no longer feared being captured or enslaved by their Meccan enemies.

About the Quranic Verse 39:15

Published in November 21, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir, … Did Prophet Muhammad command his people to worship any saints/allies as they please?! I got this impression from this phrase uttered by him here: ""But you can worship whatever you wish besides Him."..." (39:15); what is your own view? … Thank you …

Answer:

You have grossly misunderstood 39:15 and you have derived a false impression from a decontextualized Quranic phrase; let us quote the entire Quranic context here: "Say, "I was commanded to serve God, devoting my religion exclusively to Him. And I was commanded to be the first of those who submit." Say, "I fear, if I disobeyed my Lord, the torment of a horrendous Day." Say, "It is God I worship, dedicating my religion to Him." "But you can worship whatever you wish besides Him." Say, "The losers are those who lose their souls and their people on the Day of Resurrection." That is indeed the obvious loss. They will have layers of Fire above them, and layers beneath them. That is how God strikes fear into His servants - "O My servants! Fear Me!"" (39:11-16). We infer from this context that this is a severe warning addressed to those who are inclined to polytheism, and at the same time, it is an endorsement of absolute religious freedom as an Islamic principle, while bearing full responsibility for one's choice on the Last Day; Muhammad was not responsible for anyone and will never be so on the Last Day; his sole mission was to convey the Quranic message; he was a Muslim/monotheist who dedicated his religion only to the Lord God Who has said the following to him: "We sent down upon you the Book for the humankind in Truth. He who follows guidance does so for the good of his soul. And he who strays in error does so to its detriment. You are not their guardian." (39:41).

About the Seven Pairs of the Quran

Published in November 21, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir, … What is meant by the seven of the pairs mentioned in these Quranic verses: "We have given you seven of the pairs, and the Grand Quran." (15:87); "God has sent down the best of narrations: A Book consistent and paired..." (39:23)? … Thank you …

Answer:

Some Quranist researchers who specialize in numerical miraculous features of the Quranic text and its unique style of writing assume that the seven pairs are the scattered letters in some verses; e.g., see 2:1-2, 10:1, 12:1, 13:1, 15:1, 26:1, 27:1, 28:1, and 31:1. Our view is that the seven pairs are related to the fact that there are repeated Quranic details; each repetition has its variation or addition; this is a large field of Quranist studies; for instance, there are repeated details in the Quranic stories of Moses, Noah, Hud, Saleh, Shuaib, and Abraham. There are verses which are definitive, brief and others which are similar, detailed, and repeated regarding certain Quranic legislations; e.g., the verses about food legislations. The miraculous feature here in these repetitions is that there are no contradictions or discrepancies at all. Most human authors who repeat and detail any topic may forget some pieces of information or mention some contradictory pieces of information. Besides, the seven pairs are linked to the feature of repeating a certain verse within one Quranic Chapter for the sake of repeated warning and preaching; for example, see 54:17 and 55:13.

The Numerical Miraculous Features

You are very welcome as a writer on our Quranism website.

Deliverance of Abraham from the Pyre

Published in November 22, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir, … I do believe that the polytheists intended to burn Abraham in a pyre but they changed their mind; this is how God has delivered him, right? What do you think? … Thank you …

Answer:

You are extremely mistaken; the Lord God has delivered Abraham from being burned in the pyre after they polytheists hurled/thrown him inside it; God has commanded the fire in this pyre to never hurt Abraham and he got out of it alive and unharmed: "They said, "Burn him and support your gods, if you are going to act." We said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."  They planned to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. And We delivered him..." (21:68-71).

Praise Be to Allah

Published in November 22, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir, … Would you please tell me something about the reason for the variations of the phrase (praise be to Allah) in the Quranic text?  … Thank you …

Answer:

In the Quran, the Lord God confines due praise (by monotheists) to Himself alone; this is part of glorifying His Holy Name and to show thankfulness and gratitude to Him for the bounties He bestowed on human beings; this is the reason for the variations in these verses: "Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds." (1:2); "Praise be to God, Who created the heavens and the earth, and made the darkness and the light. Yet those who disbelieve ascribe equals to their Lord." (6:1); "And He is God. There is no God but He. To Him belongs all praise in this life, and in the next. And His is the decision, and to Him you will be returned." (28:70); "His is the praise in the heavens and on earth, and in the evening, and when you reach midday." (30:18); "Praise belongs to God; Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, Lord of humanity. To Him belongs all supremacy in the heavens and the earth. He is the Majestic, the Wise." (45:36-37); "Everything in the heavens and the earth praises God. To Him belongs the Kingdom, and to Him all praise is due, and He is Able to do all things." (64:1); "So glorify the praise of your Lord, and be among those who bow down." (15:98); "Praising Him are the seven heavens, and the earth, and everyone in them. There is not a thing that does not glorify Him with praise, but you do not understand their praises. He is indeed Forbearing and Forgiving." (17:44).

Muhammad Was Afraid of God's Torment

Published in November 22, 2018

Question:  … Dear Sir, … What is exactly meant by asserting in the Quran that even Prophet Muhammad himself feared God's torment in the Last Day? … Thank you …

Answer:

This is mentioned in three Quranic contexts. (1) "Say, "Shall I take for myself an ally other than God, Originator of the heavens and the earth, and He feeds and is not fed?" Say, "I am instructed to be the first of those who submit." And do not be among the polytheists. Say, "I fear, should I disobey my Lord, the torment of a tremendous Day." Whoever is spared on that Day - He had mercy on him. That is the clear victory." (6:14-16); this means that Muhammad never deified any mortals as allies/'saints'/gods besides Allah; the Lord God has commanded him to declare this; of course, the Lord God, Allah, is the Only Saint and Ally in Islam and all monotheists seek His aid/help within imploring and supplicating to Him. (2) "Say, "I was commanded to serve God, devoting my religion exclusively to Him.And I was commanded to be the first of those who submit." Say, "I fear, if I disobeyed my Lord, the torment of a horrendous Day." Say, "It is God I worship, dedicating my religion to Him."" (39:11-14); these verses assert and explain the previous context of 6:14-16; real monotheists dedicate their religion and acts of worship only to Allah. (3) "And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, those who do not hope to meet Us say, "Bring a Quran other than this, or change it." Say, "It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. I fear, if I disobeyed my Lord, the torment of a terrible Day."" (10:15); this context is about Muhammad's adhering only to the Quran; his fear of Hell-torment shows that he will be judged by God like all human beings on the Last Day; he is no intercessor at all; he knew that no soul will benefit other souls on the Last Day: "The Day when no soul will avail another soul anything; and the decision on that Day is God's." (82:19); Muhammad feared God's wrath like all sincere, pious believers. Sadly, the Muhammadans reject these verses because they have abandoned and discarded the Quran.

Sunna Prayers?!

Published in November 23, 2018

Question:  … Dear Sir, …  Is it OK to perform extra prayers after the five daily ones? I'm referring here to the so-called Sunna prayers; they are never mentioned in the Quran, as you know. Are such Sunna prayers linked to the polytheistic notion of intercession? I mean the silly, untrue notion of Prophet Muhammad being 'grand intercessor' in the Hereafter as per the view of the polytheistic Sunnite scholars/authors … What is your own view of the so-called Sunna prayers? … Thank you …

Answer:

It is never OK to apply any of the Sunnite polytheistic notions or to perform any of the Sunnite polytheistic practices; the so-called Sunna prayers are employed to venerate and worship an imaginary deity whom the Sunnites have named as 'Muhammad'; this deity or demi-god has nothing to do with the real historical figure known as Prophet Muhammad mentioned only in the Quran. Of course, Muhammad never followed any Sunnite books nor worshiped or deified himself by performing the so-called Sunna prayers dedicated to himself. Such a polytheistic act of worship pertaining to disbelief was invented during the Abbasid Era. The extra prayers mentioned in the Quran are not specified in a certain number of Raqas; they are recommended to be done during the night; we refer you to our articles and fatwas about extra prayers performed by the pious ones who also read the Quran by night. The Lord God says the following in the Quran about extra prayers by night performed by Muhammad who dedicated his prayers only to the Lord God: "Stay up the night, except a little. For half of it, or reduce it a little. or add to it; and read the Quranic verses in succession." (73:2-4); "Your Lord knows that you stay up nearly two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or one-third of it..." (73:20); "And keep vigil with it during parts of the night, as extra prayers. Perhaps your Lord will raise you to a laudable position." (17:79).

About Research Methodology

Published in November 23, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir, …  I admire your explanation of the Quranist  research methodology followed when we desire to know the stance of the Quran towards any issues or topics; yet, should this neutral, objective methodology be applied when one is researching history or any other branches of knowledge (esp. natural sciences)? What is your own opinion?  … Thank you …

Answer:

Yes, of course. This is because the scientific, objective research methodology applied by those who pursue the MA and PhD degrees is the same applied within the Quranist research methodology, in addition to the firm belief in the fact that the Quran is the Lord God's Word. Real researchers who study the Quran or specialize in any scientific fields/branches of knowledge (e.g., engineering, chemistry, biology, and physics) or humanities (e.g., history, sociology, and law) must be objective and determine the terminology of the text under study; this is what we do when we examine and analyze Quranic terms, as we never impose on them meanings found in heritage books of traditions and history.

The Death of Solomon

Published in November 24, 2018

Question: …  Dear Sir, … The Lord God says the following in the Quran: "Then, when We decreed death for him, nothing indicated his death to them except an earthworm eating at his staff. Then, when he fell down, it became clear to the jinn that, had they known the unseen, they would not have remained in the demeaning torment." (34:14) … My question is as follows: Was Solomon living alone? Had he no relatives, sons/daughters, wives, and human servants? Was he surrounded only by jinn-servants when he died? What is your own view about this? …  Thank you …

Answer:

You have to remember the fact that the Quranic stories do NOT mention all details; their focus is on the moral lessons to be drawn by monotheists; the Quranic stories are not narrations for amusement and they are not detailed accounts of history authored by men. Of course, we can infer from 34:14  that Solomon was alone and no one from his relatives was around him at this particular moment when he died; his controlling jinn as his servants (by God's permission, of course) was beyond the scope of knowledge of his people and his relatives.

Friday Sermons Delivered by Muhammad?

Published in November 24, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir,  … In one of your earlier books, you have written that neither the Umayyads nor the Abbasids ever wrote Friday sermons delivered by Prophet Muhammad and that they deliberately concealed such sermons, as such sermons never endorsed tyranny, and this concealment served their purposes as they fabricated hadiths as opium of the masses; yet, you contradict this view of yours within recent books and fatwas where you mention that Prophet Muhammad's Friday sermons consisted only of reciting/reading aloud Quranic verses and therefore no one ever wrote these sermons during his lifetime. Which view is the correct one?!  … Thank you …

Answer:

The second one, of course, is the correct view. in our early writings, we made some mistakes as we are NOT infallible; we welcome constructive criticism and corrections from anyone; at this point in the early 1980s when we expressed the first wrong view, our Quranist vision was not yet crystalized in full (this is done later); researching the Quran in later years made us realize the fact that the Friday sermons delivered by Muhammad consisted only of reading some Quranic verses aloud to the congregations before him. As a historian, we assure you of the fact that Sunnite books of hadiths never mentioned even a single Friday sermon delivered by Muhammad; we refer you to our detailed book about sermons within the eras of caliphates.

Fear of Death and Wishing It

Published in November 24, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir, … I'm a young man....... Since my conversion to Quranism, I adhere to piety as much as I can; yet, I think of my death most of the time; I fear death very much; it's a growing phobia inside me now! I've read that this phobia is known under the term thanatophobia. I feel I'll die at my young age! Is my fear normal or not?! What about you; do you fear the coming of the moment of your own death?.......... Any advice?! …  Thank you …

Answer:

It is normal that young men and young women would be afraid lest they might die during their youth. Some contemporaries/companions of Muhammad were enthusiastic about self-defense fighting and hoped to die while serving the Lord God's cause; when they were defeated in the battle of Uhud, the Lord God has said the following about them: "You used to wish for death before you have faced it. Now you have seen it before your own eyes." (3:143). You have to bear in mind, our son, that real pious monotheists are eager to die and meet with their Lord God on the Last Day; when they reach the old, senile age, they hope to die soon and find that their sins are forgiven by the Lord God. This applies to our person now as we are 70 years old; we wish to die soon without suffering any long, painful ailment and we hope that the moment of our death will be a pleasant one (i.e., when the angels of death will tell our person that our fate is in Paradise and that our sins are forgiven by the Lord God). Death is inevitable end of all human beings on earth, you know; it will be a brief slumber followed by eternity after the Day of Judgment; some human beings will remain forever in Hell and some will inherit the Eternal Life in Paradise.

About the Verse 38:3

Published in November 25, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir,  …  What is the meaning of the Quranic verse 38:3? … Thank you …

Answer:

The Lord God says in the Quran: "How many generations have We destroyed before them? They cried out when it was too late to escape." (38:3). This means that the nations of disbelievers/polytheists which were punished and smitten/destroyed by the Lord God (after rejecting God's messengers and His miracles/signs shown to them) tried to escape their death/torment/destruction in vain; it was too late for them to repent and make amends to be spared and saved.

About the Verse 13:37

Published in November 25, 2018

Question: … Dear Sir,  … What is the meaning of this Quranic phrase: "Thus We revealed it as an Arabic legislation..." (13:37)? … Thank you …

Answer:

The Lord God says the following in the Quran: "Those to whom We gave the Book rejoice in what was revealed to you, while some factions reject parts of it. Say, "I am commanded to worship God, and to never associate anything with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return." Thus We revealed it as an Arabic legislation. Were you to follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would have neither ally nor defender against God." (13:36-37).  This means that people should use the Lord God's Quranic legislations/laws as criterion and source of judgment; this has been done by Muhammad (as the judge and ruler of the Yathreb city-state) and the early believers with him when they faced and rejected the devilish narratives of the disbelievers: "Likewise, We have assigned for every prophet an enemy-human and jinn devils-inspiring one another with fancy words in order to deceive. But had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. So leave them to their fabrications. So that the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter may incline to it, and be content with it, and that they may perpetrate whatever they perpetrate. "Shall I seek a judge other than God, when He is the One who revealed to you the Book, explained in detail?" Those to whom We gave the Book know that it is the truth revealed from your Lord. So do not be of those who doubt." (6:112-114); "Whatever matter you differ about, its judgment rests with God. "Such is God, my Lord, in Whom I trust, and unto Him I repent."" (42:10); "And We revealed to you the Book, with truth, confirming the Scripture that preceded it, and superseding it. So judge between them according to what God revealed, and do not follow their desires if they differ from the truth that has come to you. For each of you We have assigned a law and a method. Had God willed, He could have made you a single nation, but He tests you through what He has given you. So compete in righteousness. To God is your return, all of you; then He will inform you of what you had disputed. And judge between them according to what God revealed, and do not follow their desires. And beware of them, lest they lure you away from some of what God has revealed to you. But if they turn away, know that God intends to strike them with some of their sins. In fact, a great many people are corrupt. Is it the laws of the time of ignorance that they desire? Who is better than God in judgment for people who are certain?" (5:48-50). The Lord God has commanded the People of the Book to use the Quran to settle their religious disputes: "This Quran relates to the Israelites most of what they differ about." (27:76). Since the Quran is in the Arabic tongue, it is an Arabic legislation adhered to and applied by Muhammad himself.

The Birth-Date of Saeed Ibn Al-Musayyab

Published in December 16, 2008

Question: … Dear Sir, … I admire your great writings very much, but I think in one of your lengthy articles, you have made a mistake by mentioning that the historical figure,Saeed Ibn Al-Musayyab, was born in 31 A.H.; most historical accounts mention he was born in 21 A.H.  … Thank you …

Answer:

It was a typo or an unintentional mistake; thank you very much for informing us about it; we will correct it at once within our article; of course,Saeed Ibn Al-Musayyab was born in 21 A.H., two years before the caliph Omar Ibn Al-Khattab was assassinated; this is the view we support; we reject and have refuted the views of other historians who assume that he was born in c.15/17 A.H.

Prophets after Muhammad?!

Published in July 8, 2015

Question: … Dear Sir, … I infer from certain Quranic verses such as the following ones..................that it is possible that God has sent (or will send) other prophets/messengers after Muhammad to preach people to return to the Quran; i.e., they will bring no new Scriptures as the Quran is the Last Message from God to humanity. Every community in all eras has its messenger/preacher inspired by God; I infer this from this verse: "O Children of Adam! When messengers from among you come to you, relating to you My Verses - whoever practices piety and reforms - upon them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve." (7:35). What is your own view of this?  … Thank you …

Answer:

We have a differ view of yours; Muhammad is the Last Prophet/Messenger among human beings sent by the Lord God and given the Last Message (i.e., the Quran) to convey it to people. Since the Quran is the Last Message, there are not any prophets/messengers sent by the Lord God after the death of Muhammad. The only ''Messenger'' remaining with humanity until the end of days in the Quran itself. Of course, Quranists who ponder the Quran ascribe their inferred views and conclusions to themselves and NOT to the Lord God, while bearing full responsibility for their own views shared within cyberspace. Your erroneous view expressed in your message contradicts the Quran for sure; your religion differs from our Islam/Quranism. The Lord God will settle our religious disputes on the Last Day.

We Are A Thinker, Yet.......

Published in March 22, 2013

Question: … Dear Sir, … Upon reading your books, articles, and fatwas, I do admit that you are an exceptional thinker; yet, I do not quite approve of your style of writing (in Arabic) because you tend to write long introductions, prefaces, details, and explanations before you get to the main point(s) of the article or book at hand; people appreciate directness and brevity, you know …  Thank you …

Answer:

Since we are a thinker as you say, our writings vary; within our archive, there are brief, to-the-point political articles offered to our readers as well as specialized studies in history, heritage, and traditions; we simplify our style as much as we can because the material at hand within many topics are so many; most readers lack sufficient historical and linguistic backgrounds and this entails explaining many things and many terms. Besides, most readers of today are rather lazy and pampered and lack patience; they are willing to read only brief articles and summaries of books; they baulk and cringe at the prospect of reading lengthy, specialized studies and books about history, let alone Quranist writings; most people are too busy to read; their hectic lifestyles prevent them from enjoying the pleasures and rewards of reading, observation, and reflection. In addition, most people hate reformist writings because they cause to them pricks of conscience; they prefer that writers would not criticize the corruption and tyranny of their countries or to dispel any myths by using the Quranic verses. Instead of hating our style of writing or lengthy articles/books, you should bear in mind the huge amount of information we have to offer to seekers of guidance and truth; you have to bear in mind that our mission is to raise awareness of people about Islam (i.e., Qurnaism) and that this mission includes undermining and refuting more than 1000 years of mythology and erroneous notions pertaining to Sunnite, Sufi, and Shiite religions which are posing as if they were Islam. We have to write about both religious reform and the political one in an attempt to prevent more bloodshed and bloodbaths among the Muhammadans whose countries are ruined by backwardness, tyranny, sabotage, corruption, and obscurantism. Immediate reform must be applied and it needs first to be much talked of and written about. Our articles within the Modern Discussion website (ahewar.org) have been read more than 4 million times since 2006. Sadly, most people are very much annoyed by writings about reform and radical change and they prefer to maintain the status quo within a cover of any of the earthly/terrestrial, man-made religions of Satan.

About the Verse 8:44

Published in June 5, 2010

Question: … Dear Sir, … The Lord God says the following in the Quran about the battle of Badr: "When you met, He made them appear as few in your eyes, and made you appear fewer in their eyes, so that God may conclude a predetermined matter. To God all matters revert." (8:44); this made me ponder on the problematic issue of predetermined Fate as it overlaps with the issue of limited human freedom of action....................... Was victory at the battle of Badr predetermined and preordained by God, anyway? What was the role of the defenders of Yathreb, then?! … Thank you …

Answer:

Please wait for our articles and books about Fate and about the Quranic details regarding the battle of Badr; the verse 8:44 will be discussed and analyzed by our person in detail within these coming writings.
