Opposition and MB Lawmakers Accuse Government of Failing to Run the Country
Muslim Brotherhood (MB) lawmakers yesterday joined forces with opposition and independent counterparts in accusing the government of failing to run the country and of bias towards the affluent class at the expense of the poor, while at the same time, referring to what they described as the government's inability to curb the budget deficit and the mounting public debt.
Legislators also warned of a worsening confidence crisis between citizens and the government and called for the redistribution of economic reform revenues among the nation's classes to achieve social balance.

The accusations were raised during a parliamentary session to pass the State's final budget. Head of the MB parliamentary bloc, MP Saad el-Katatni accused the government of disregarding recommendations passed by parliament, and called for setting a strict timeline for curbing the public budget deficit, and abiding by the principle of transparency in all the government's financial transactions.
For his part, al-Wafd MP Salah el-Sayegh blamed governmental policies for forcing the poor to scour garbage containers for food, and for rampant prostitution.
Drawing up a special budget for the poor, which would guarantee that they receive benefits from economic reforms and achieve social balance between the different classes of society, was suggested by the ruling National Democratic Party's MP Mohamed Aboul Enain.
Echoing similar accusations, MP Mohamed Abdel Alim noted that this year's Central Auditing Organization's report was more critical of the government’s performance than ever, while independent MP Gamal Zahran criticized the absence of a large number of ministers from yesterday's session.
"The presence of Minister of Economic Development Othman Mohamed Othman alone is not enough to answer to the members’ remarks," said Zahran
