The third National Conference for Media Reform is set for Jan. 12 - 14, 2007
in Memphis, Tennessee. The event will be an exciting, inspiring three-day
gathering for people who are concerned about the state of our media and
committed to working for change. The conference will convene more than 2,000
activists, educators, media makers, journalists, policymakers and concerned

citizens to discuss how to create a better media system.

In order to maximize the range of voices represented at the conference, Free
Press is offering a limited number of travel scholarships and registration
fee waivers to offset attendance costs for individuals who would otherwise
be unable to attend.

Free Press is committed to supporting increased participation by people from

broad geographic representation. We will prioritize scholarship applications
from individuals who contribute to the diversity of conference participants.


The National Conference for Media Reform will present ideas and strategies
for winning the fight for better media and connect you with thousands of
media reformers from across the nation. Whether you have been a media reform
activist for years or are new to the movement, all are welcome.

The Middle East Institute and the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University invite applications for an appointment as Arcapita Visiting Professor of Modern Arab Studies for a one-semester position for the fall 2017 or spring 2018 semester. The position may be filled at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, or Visiting Professor. We are interested in candidates whose field of research and teaching is in history, culture, or social sciences of the modern Arab world. The incumbent will be expected to teach two courses in this field, to participate in the activities of the Middle East Institute and to give a brown bag lecture and other such public lectures as may be appropriate. The position offers competitive remuneration.
