Adopted son

نص السؤال
Sunni fiqh has a lot of rules related to adoption that seem very unwieldy in western society, such as treating any adopted child once they hit puberty as a ghayr mahram and not allowing such an individual to inherit any more than 1/3 of the household estate. I can see the wisdom in naming the child from his/her father or nearest known relative as a means of preserving lineage, but currently there are a lot of children whose fathers do not want them and at any rate would have much less to pass on for inheritance than an adoptive family. What does the Qur'an say about situations like the one we are facing where children need to be placed in homes that can help give them a good start in life?

During his life, one can sell of his properities to his (adopted) son. It is his money during his life and he has a full authority to handle it as he wants. This has nothing to do with the heritage after his death.
