Activists Ahmed Adel, Ahmed Maher and Ahmed Douma, held in Tora Prison, have ended their hunger strike, a security source from Interior Ministry said.

The activists ended their strike after ‘guidance and advice’ given by the prison leadership, the source said on Saturday adding that public prosecution was notified.

The imprisoned activists started a hunger strike on 26 December in protest against ill-treatment inside the prison and psychological warfare techniques used against them, according to 6 April Movement’s website.

The three political activists were sent in December to three years in prison and a fine of LE50,000 each, on charges of attacking security forces, destruction of public and private facilities and injuring the forces deployed to guard the court.

The activists were jailed when they demonstrated against the new protest law, which requires the Interior Ministry's approval before holding any protest. The law has received harsh criticism from human rights groups, the UN and Western governments.
