President Obama said several months ago that Pakistan was afflicted by a “cancer of terrorism.” The discovery of Osama bin Laden’s safehouse outside of Islamabad shows how the disease has metastasized into what Apoorva Shah calls a “military-jihadi complex.” If Washington can’t fix its awkward relationship with this “frenemy” -- and if Pakistan can’t fix itself -- the illness will surely prove fatal.
