Supreme Committee for Elections Hands Decision over to Ministry of Interior to Correct Sadat’s Representation Status as “Farmer”

“You do not lose what’s truthfully yours if you keep asking for it.” “لا يضيع حق وراءه مطالبEgyptian saying

In light of justice and rule of law, and after much suffering on behalf of Mr. Mohamed Anwar Esmat el Sadat (Independent candidate, Tala District, Menofia), the Supreme Committee for Elections attempted today to clean their hands from the recent problems faced by Sadat in his campaign; they moved to correct Sadat’s status as representative of “Farmers”. This takes place after recent developments including false accusations of incorrect status from an opponent, and an Administrative Court ruling issued in Sadat’s favor, from an appeal filed on behalf of Sadat, to keep his original status of “Farmer” in his candidacy for Parliament. The Supreme Committee for Elections is limited in its power, and took action by handing the decision over to the Ministry of Interior by passing the paperwork to them. In order for Sadat to run on his correct seat in the elections on Sunday, the Ministry of Interior must comply. After some unrest and confusion surrounding the elections, many citizens of Tala were happy to hear the news, and large crowds arrived at Sadat’s campaign headquarters to congratulate him.
