Like many industrial countries around the world, Russia is coping with the aftermath of the global economic crisis as well as with other domestic challenges. The Russian leadership is also pursuing an active foreign policy agenda. Issues being discussed with the United States include the new START treaty, Iran, Afghanistan and missile defense. TURKEY
On March 17, CUSE hosted Assistant Secretary of State and former Brookings Senior Fellow Philip Gordon for the sixth annual Sakip Sabanci Lecture. Gordon offered the Obama administration’s perspective on Turkey, its relations with the United States and the European Union and its role in the region and across the globe.

On April 23, the book Europe 2030, edited by State Department Coordinator for Counterterrorism and former CUSE Director Daniel Benjamin, was officially launched in Europe at an event hosted by the Luso-American Development Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal. The featured several of the book's distinguished authors and other experts who predicted what the European Union will look like twenty years from now.
